6 Key Fashion Month Trends You Can Find On The High Street Right Now

7th March 2024 | By Ashling McCloy

After days of incredible new style on the catwalks, fashion month has come to a close. It was a whirlwind of A-listers, ‘It’ bags and those Chloé Maxime wedges, plus an abundance of exciting trends for autumn/winter 24. But why wait ’til winter? Not when I’ve found affordable pieces to get ahead and wear this spring

Just as we’re gearing up for new season outfits perfect for warmer days, the fashion world likes to tantalise us with what’s to come later in the year. It’s a little like dangling sweets in front of a child; you’re left craving what you can’t have. Well, thankfully, that’s not necessarily the case. While I’m not suggesting you can wear the huge fluffy coats – predicted to be top news this coming winter – there are other trends we can most definitely embrace right now. Obviously the bold yellows at Prada, Marc Cain and Iceberg will brighten up autumn/winter 24 fashion, but there couldn’t be a more summery shade. So yep, let’s wear those buttery hues today.

Similarly, platforms, clogs and sky-high wedges dominated the runways, especially at Gucci and Chloé. To me, these also scream boho summers. With lush affordable options available at Free People, I’m jumping on this trend pronto. The other notable trend which already appears to be having a colossal resurgence is none other than our old favourite leopard print. It’s currently roaring through everyone’s social feeds and it’s set to continue. Making appearances at Isabel Marant, Dolce & Gabbana and Dior, if you didn’t like it before, you must do now.

There are no rules, so I say, if you like it, wear it. Now. Don’t wait.

1. Mellow Yellow

Despite being a huge hit on the winter catwalks, this happy hue is very much one to be worn year round. Pops of it appeared at Prada and Fendi, while Marc Cain and Iceberg went all out for the sunshine shade. Personally, I adore the joy this shade brings and, depending on the tone, from canary to butter, there is a yellow to suit most skin tones. If you’re pale, go for warmer variations like mustard; darker skin complexions should go for golden, bright yellows.

2. Animal Print

Hands down, still one of my favourite prints. In fact, leopard is very much a neutral to my wardrobe. Arguably it has never gone out of fashion, but thankfully, for its many devotees, this bold pattern has once again come to the fore of fashion. We’re seeing it right now on numerous influencers, but also on the runways at Versace, Isabel Marant and Dolce & Gabbana. I’m even considering swapping my red tights for new leopard ones… too bold?

3. Platforms

This trend excites me no end because I’m over ballet pumps. There, I said it. They do nothing for my little wide feet. AW24 will bring the revival of sky-high ‘70s inspired heels, but also wedges and clogs. Thanks to Chemena Kamali’s debut show for Chloé we’re about to see a return to the iconic Seventies silhouette and boho fabulousness, from ruffles and lace to slouchy boots and wooden soled platform clogs. Or, for something outrageously glam, you can look to Gucci.

4. Sheer Delight

It was more ‘who didn’t feature a see-through number?’ Controversially, nipples were officially trending on the runways. From barely-there blouses to lace-trimmed slips and sheer skirts, the almost naked look is where it’s at. It’s no major surprise, as a plethora of street stylers have been baring all in mesh dresses for some time, but now it’s official. Personally, it’s an excuse to upgrade to fancy undies.

5. All Red

Yep, still here. This fiery one isn’t going anywhere fast. Admittedly, we’re also going to see a lot of beetroot red and burgundy, but I adore that this top-to-toe scarlett is still a thing. Spotted at Hermes, Balmain and Bottega Veneta, it is utterly breathtaking. Plus, the high street iterations are nothing short of beautiful, too. I have snapped up the Cos one for my summer hols.

6. Bold Florals

Traditionally, winter florals have been washed with a darker, gothic aesthetic, however AW24 looks set to be blooming bright. It simply means we’re already on trend with this season’s offering of bold blossoms on wow-factor dresses with full wide hems. I’m obsessed with both the & Other Stories puffed sleeve number and the balloon hem dress from Anthropogie. Absolute beauties.
