After months of speculation, we finally have our first look at Dolly Alderton’s new adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel Pride and Prejudice. We have seen this material tackled in the past, namely by the likes of Colin Firth, Jennifer Ehle, Keira Knightley, and Matthew Macfadyen, but now a new generation of Hollywood stars brace themselves to inhabit the Bennet household.

As period dramas continue to undergo some form of modern renaissance with Bridgerton Part Two on the horizon, and, of course, Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights continuing to stir up controversy, Pride and Prejudice is also officially returning to the spotlight. Here is everything you need to know:

Who will star?

The first thing worth addressing is the stacked cast of Hollywood actors involved in the project. Emma Corrin (The Crown) will be stepping into the role of Elizabeth Bennet, while Jack Lowden (Slow Horses) is set to play her brooding love interest, Mr Darcy. Other stars joining the cast include Olivia Colman, who will be playing Mrs Bennet (arguably the role she was born to play), as well as Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat), Louis Partridge (House of Guinness), Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve) and many more familiar faces.

What we know so far

Unfortunately, the latest teaser trailer gives little away as to what viewers can expect from the new six-part mini-series. It opens with a shot of Emma Corrin sitting deep in thought on a rooftop with birds chirping in the background. We then see a series of short clips where we get a first look at Jack Lowden as Mr Darcy, and the pair as they share their first intimate dance. What the trailer does offer is an insight into the mood and tone of the show, offering a more sultry and intimate portrayal of Austen’s classic. One thing it looks like it’ll guarantee is more iconic moments like Matthew Macfayden’s hand clench, and Firth’s wet linen shirt lake scene.

Alderton’s screenplay will be brought to life by director Euros Lyn, whose previous projects include Heartstopper, His Dark Materials and Black Mirror. Their rendition of the classic promises to closely align with the original text, in a bid to reunite fans with the timeless 1813 novel and also introduce a new generation to Austen’s work.
